Frequently asked questions
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Detection and replacement run in a background worker in your browser. The editor is an isolated frame whose security policy forbids it any network connection, so the text cannot be sent even by mistake. You can check this in your browser's network tab, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded.
Does it use AI to find personal data?
No. It uses deterministic rules: patterns, check digits (IBAN, card numbers, national IDs), context words such as "Dear" or "Customer:", and a list of first names. The same text always gives the same findings, and every finding says why it was flagged.
Will it find everything?
No tool can promise that for free text. Values with a fixed format and a check digit are usually found. Names and addresses depend on context and the name list, so read the highlighted text before you copy the result and add anything that was missed to the custom terms list.
How do I get the original values back in the AI's answer?
Choose placeholders, copy the result, and paste the AI's answer into the Restore view. Placeholders the AI kept, such as [PERSON_1], are swapped back for the original values. The mapping is held in your browser tab only; export it as a file if you want to restore later or in another tab.
Is the result anonymous under the GDPR?
Placeholders and hashes are pseudonymization: with the mapping, the text can be linked back to the people in it, so it is still personal data. Masks and fake data remove the values, but whether the rest of the text identifies someone depends on the text. The tool helps you remove direct identifiers; it does not certify anonymity.
Which languages and countries are supported?
Emails, phones, IBANs, cards, keys, IP and MAC addresses, URLs, names and addresses work in every locale pack. National identifiers come per pack: UK, US, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands.
Can I anonymize files?
Yes: text, CSV, JSON and log files up to 5 MB. They are read by your browser, not uploaded, and the result is downloaded under the same file type. For CSV files you can also pick whole columns to replace.
Does it cost anything?
No. The tool is free and needs no account.
